Shogran & Siri Paye Complete Guide — Weekend Escape from Islamabad

April 28, 2026 — by NaranTours.pk

Shogran and Siri Paye represent the best value mountain weekend escape available from Islamabad — 80km away, reachable in 2.5–3 hours by regular car, yet offering genuine alpine scenery, panoramic Himalayan views and mountain activities that rival destinations far more difficult to reach.

Shogran vs Siri Paye — What’s the Difference?

Many first-time visitors confuse Shogran and Siri Paye, assuming they are the same place. They are not — Shogran is the hill station at 2,362m accessible by regular car, and Siri Paye is the high alpine meadow at 2,895m that sits 7km above Shogran, reachable only by 4×4 jeep. Think of Shogran as your hotel base and Siri Paye as your day excursion destination.

How to Reach Shogran from Islamabad

Take the Hazara Motorway (M-1) from Islamabad towards Havelian. At Havelian, exit onto the Kiwai road which climbs steeply through dense pine forest to Shogran. Total: 80km, 2.5–3 hours. The Kiwai road is paved all the way to Shogran — regular cars, hatchbacks and even small motorcycles can reach Shogran without difficulty. No 4×4 required for the main road. For Siri Paye above Shogran, hire 4×4 jeeps at the Shogran jeep stand (Rs. 1,500–2,000/jeep return).

Activities in Shogran and Siri Paye

Horse Riding (Rs. 500–800/person): Local Gujjar herders bring horses to Siri Paye meadow from June through September. Rides traverse the broad meadow and along the ridge above the treeline. Suitable for beginners.
Paragliding (Rs. 3,000–5,000/tandem): Available from the Shogran ridge launch point. The combination of consistent valley winds and dramatic drop creates excellent flying conditions.
Kiwai Waterfall: A 30-minute walk through dense cedar and pine forest below Shogran. The waterfall cascades through moss-covered boulders — refreshing and beautiful.
Photography: The golden hour at sunrise and sunset transforms the meadows and peaks. The Milky Way is clearly visible at Siri Paye on clear nights.

Best Time to Visit Shogran

Shogran is accessible year-round — even in winter with heavy snowfall, the paved road is generally passable with 4×4. The most popular months are April through October. July is the peak for wildflower bloom. September and October offer golden autumn colours with far fewer crowds. Spring visits in April–May catch the first wildflowers and have much more peaceful conditions.
