The Valley's Quiet Forest
Where most of Kaghan’s fame rests on high, bare lakes, Sharan is all about the forest. Tall pine, fir and spruce close in around open meadow at about 2,600 metres, the light falls in soft green shafts, and the loudest sound is usually the wind in the canopy. It is the sort of place regulars return to precisely because it never feels busy.
Reached by a jeep track above Paras in the lower valley, Sharan sits low enough to stay green and accessible when the upper lakes are still locked in snow — which makes it a reliable early-season option and a gentle counterpoint to the drama further up the road.
Camping Under the Pines
Sharan is built for an overnight stay. Government-installed camping pods and space for tents make it one of the easiest places in the valley to sleep out, and the lack of town lights means the star visibility is extraordinary on a clear night. Easy forest trails suit families and casual walkers, while the longer climb toward Manshi Top gives stronger hikers a proper half-day.
Nights are cold here even in summer, so warm layers matter, and pods fill up in peak season — booking ahead is wise. On our itineraries Sharan works as a restful forest night before dropping down to Balakot, and pairs naturally with the Kiwai Waterfall and Shogran leg.
