Overview

This nine-day circuit is for travellers who want the whole Kaghan Valley — not just its famous top end. It threads together the corners most tours skip: Balakot at the valley mouth, the hushed alpine forest of Sharan above Paras, the Kiwai Waterfall, and the Siri Paye meadows above Shogran, before finally climbing to Naran for the high lakes. The result is a route that reads the valley from bottom to top, gaining altitude gradually the way it's meant to be done.

Sharan is the reason to add the extra days. It's a pine-and-meadow forest reached only by jeep, far quieter than Naran's bazaar, and a night under its clear skies is the sort of thing regulars talk about long after. From there you drop to Kiwai's waterfall, spend two nights on the Shogran plateau with a full Siri Paye day, and only then move up to Naran — by which point the altitude of Saif-ul-Malook and Babusar Top feels earned rather than abrupt.

The Naran leg keeps the classics: Saif-ul-Malook by jeep, the long day to Babusar Top and Lulusar, and a Lalazar plateau afternoon with an optional Ansoo Lake trek for the fit. Stays range from a Balakot hotel to a Sharan guest house or forest camp, so the comfort level shifts with the terrain — tell us your preference and we'll confirm the Sharan arrangement in writing. Pickup is from Islamabad and Rawalpindi, the price is per person, and the workable season for the full circuit is roughly June to September, with the exact order confirmed against current road and weather conditions.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1
Day 1 Islamabad → Balakot

Depart Islamabad about 7:00 AM on the Hazara Motorway, the plains giving way to forested foothills as we climb toward Kaghan. We reach Balakot by afternoon and settle in for an easy evening beside the Kunhar River, the gateway town to the valley, resting before the forest leg that follows.

2
Day 2 Balakot → Sharan Forest

We transfer to a 4×4 jeep for the climb up to Sharan (2,540m), a quiet alpine forest and meadow high above Paras. The afternoon is for pine-forest walks and soaking in the stillness, and after dark the sky fills with stars. The night is spent at a Sharan guest house or forest camp.

3
Day 3 Sharan → Kiwai → Shogran

We descend from the forest to the valley floor, pausing at the Kiwai (Kawai) Waterfall for a short pine-forest walk beside the falling water. From there a 4×4 climbs to Shogran (2,362m), where we check into a hotel among the pines and gather for a bonfire evening in the cool mountain air.

4
Day 4 Siri Paye Meadows

A full day is spent on the Siri Paye plateau (2,895m), reached by jeep — rolling meadows, clear views of Malka Parbat and plenty of time for unhurried walking and photography. One of Kaghan's finest high pastures, it earns a second night back down at Shogran among the trees.

5
Day 5 Shogran → Naran

We drop back to Kawai and drive up the main valley through Kaghan town to Naran (2,409m), the forested lower valley opening into the bigger, barer scenery of the upper Kaghan. The afternoon is at leisure, with time to explore the bazaar, walk the riverside and enjoy a trout dinner.

6
Day 6 Lake Saif-ul-Malook

A morning 4×4 jeep climbs to Lake Saif-ul-Malook (3,224m), where Malika Parbat mirrors on the still water — the valley's signature view — with time at the lake and an optional boat ride. The afternoon stays easy back in Naran, browsing the bazaar and strolling along the Kunhar River.

7
Day 7 Babusar Top & Lulusar

A full day heads north via Battakundi and Burawai to the turquoise Lulusar Lake (3,410m) and up to Babusar Top (4,173m), the valley's highest pass, for wide panoramas across ridge after ridge of peaks. We linger for photographs at the top before returning down the valley to Naran by evening.

8
Day 8 Lalazar & Batakundi

A jeep climbs to the Lalazar pine plateau for easy meadow walks and views, then continues toward the Batakundi riverside upstream of Naran. For the fit, and only if the weather cooperates, there's the option of a guided Ansoo Lake trek; otherwise it's a relaxed day of walks and photography.

9
Day 9 Naran → Balakot → Islamabad

After breakfast and checkout we begin the drive back down the valley, pausing for a farewell lunch at Balakot beside the Kunhar before the long descent to the plains. With photo stops along the way, we reach Islamabad in the evening at the end of a grand circuit through the whole valley.
