The Route in Detail
The route: M-4 north to Pindi Bhattian, merge onto the M-2 toward Islamabad, then the M-15 Hazara Motorway to Mansehra and the N-15 river road through Balakot, Kiwai and Kaghan to Naran. Motorway service areas cover the first six hours; the classic Kiwai waterfall chai stop marks your arrival in the mountains. Night departures (9–10 PM) or dawn starts (5 AM) both work — the goal is crossing the M-2 before its afternoon heat and reaching the valley in daylight.
