Overview

Where our 5-day Naran-Swat combination is the efficient version, this seven-day Grand Valley Tour is the complete one — the same two spectacular regions, but with genuine time in each rather than a compressed loop. It's the package for families and groups who have a full week and want every day of it justified by something worth seeing.

Naran opens the trip with its usual dawn Saif ul Malook run, followed by a full Babusar Top day and an overnight in Shogran for Siri Paye's meadows — three distinct Kaghan Valley experiences rather than one rushed sightseeing day. From Shogran the route turns toward Swat via Abbottabad, with real time in Mingora for the region's Buddhist-era history before continuing up to Malam Jabba's ski-resort scenery and Kalam's cooler forested valley, ending at Mahodand Lake's turquoise water — one of the most photographed spots in the whole of KPK.

Seven days spread across two valleys means no day feels like a transit day pretending to be a sightseeing day — travel legs are timed sensibly, hotel nights are chosen for comfort at each stop, and families get a full week that feels like two proper holidays stitched into one continuous trip rather than a rushed circuit. This is the tour we recommend over the 5-day version specifically when a family says they don't want to feel like they're racing the itinerary — the destinations are identical, but the pace is where the extra two days genuinely earn their keep. Departures run from Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and because this tour spans two valleys with different seasonal windows, we confirm current road and weather status for both Babusar Top and the Shangla route before every group sets off. Swat's Buddhist-era archaeological sites around Mingora are a highlight many families don't expect going in, and we build in genuine time there rather than a passing photo stop.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1
Day 1 Islamabad → Naran

We depart Islamabad at 5:30 AM for the scenic climb up the Kaghan Valley, reaching Naran by afternoon. After hotel check-in the evening is free to settle into the mountain air and explore Naran Bazaar, resting before a week that links the Kaghan and Swat valleys across the north-west.

2
Day 2 Naran Sightseeing

A sunrise jeep to Lake Saif ul Malook catches the mirror-still water and reflected peaks. The rest of the day is easy: a walk by the Batakundi riverside upstream of Naran, and time in Naran Bazaar for tea, dry fruit and souvenirs, keeping the pace gentle before the days ahead.

3
Day 3 Babusar & Shogran

A morning excursion climbs to Babusar Top (4,173m), the valley's highest pass, for snow and sweeping panoramas. In the afternoon we drive down the valley and across to Shogran, settling into a hotel among the pines, ready for the Siri Paye meadows and the crossing to Swat the next day.

4
Day 4 Shogran → Swat

A 4×4 jeep climbs to the Siri Paye meadows for morning views over the pastures and Malka Parbat, then we drive west via Abbottabad into the Swat Valley. In Mingora we visit Buddhist-era ruins from Swat's ancient Gandhara past before overnighting at the valley's lively heart.

5
Day 5 Swat → Malam Jabba → Kalam

The day climbs to the Malam Jabba ski resort, high among forested ridges, then continues up the valley to Kalam (2,100m). We explore the cool Usho pine forest and the mountain-town atmosphere, settling into Kalam for the night surrounded by peaks and the rushing Swat River.

6
Day 6 Kalam → Mahodand Lake

A jeep run reaches the stunning Mahodand Lake (3,050m), set among meadows and snow-streaked peaks at the head of the Ushu valley — time for photography, a lakeside walk and a boat ride. We return to Kalam for a second night, savouring one of Swat's most beautiful corners.

7
Day 7 Kalam → Islamabad

After a relaxed start we begin the return drive, joining the Swat Motorway for a smooth run back toward the plains. With comfort stops along the way, we reach Islamabad by around 7:00 PM, wrapping up a week that paired the Kaghan Valley's lakes with Swat's forests and meadows.
