Overview

Call this the royal treatment version of our Naran-Kashmir combination: seven days, private transport throughout, and enough time in both the Kaghan Valley and Neelum Valley that neither region feels like a supporting act to the other. Where the four-day express tour is an introduction and the six-day Grand Tour gives Kashmir its proper due, this Royal Tour adds the final layer of pace and comfort that turns a well-planned trip into an unhurried one.

Naran gets its full standard treatment — Saif ul Malook at dawn, an evening in the bazaar, time by the Kunhar River — before the route turns toward Neelum Valley for an extended stay along its turquoise waters, with time built in for Sharda's historic sites and the kind of slow riverside afternoons that shorter itineraries simply can't accommodate. Hotel choices lean toward the better properties in each region rather than merely adequate ones, and the driving days are paced to avoid the long, tiring single-day pushes that cheaper combination tours often require.

Seven days at this pace suits travellers celebrating something — an anniversary, a reunion, a milestone — who want two of northern Pakistan's most scenic valleys covered without ever feeling like the itinerary is working against them. It's priced accordingly as a premium tour, and every extra day compared to our shorter Kashmir combinations goes toward exactly what luxury travel should buy: time, comfort, and the absence of a rushed morning anywhere in the week. We recommend booking at least two weeks ahead for this tier, since hotel rooms in both regions are reserved specifically to the standard this Royal Tour is priced for rather than assigned from general availability on short notice. This tour is particularly popular for wedding anniversaries specifically, and we're glad to help arrange a modest celebration touch at either region's hotel on request.

Day-by-Day Itinerary

1
Day 1 Islamabad → Naran

A 5:30 AM departure carries us up the Kaghan Valley to Naran by afternoon, where we check into a premium hotel. The evening is free to explore Naran Bazaar and settle into the mountain air, resting before a week that pairs Kaghan's lakes with the deep Neelum Valley of Azad Kashmir.

2
Day 2 Saif ul Malook & Shogran

A dawn jeep to Lake Saif ul Malook catches the mirror-still sunrise and the reflected peaks. In the afternoon we drive down to Kawai and up to Shogran, settling into a hotel among the pines, poised for the meadows the next morning and the scenic crossing into Kashmir.

3
Day 3 Shogran → AJK

A 4×4 climbs to the Siri Paye meadows for morning views over the pastures and Malka Parbat, then we drive west through Abbottabad to Muzaffarabad, capital of Azad Kashmir where the Jhelum and Neelum rivers meet. We settle in for the night at the gateway to the Neelum Valley.

4
Day 4 Neelum Valley Exploration

We spend the day exploring the Neelum Valley — Keran facing across the LoC river, the ancient Sharda ruins, and the Arang Kel viewpoint with its terraced slopes and forest. The valley unfolds slowly among Kashmiri villages, and we overnight deep in Neelum surrounded by green ridges.

5
Day 5 Taobat & Upper Neelum

We push on to Taobat, the last village at the head of the valley near the source of the Neelum, and take in the approach toward remote Shounter Lake. Far from the crowds, this is the valley at its wildest, before we return downstream to overnight again at Keran.

6
Day 6 Ratti Gali Lake (3,700m)

A jeep run via Dowarian climbs to Ratti Gali Lake (3,700m), a snow-ringed alpine lake carpeted with wildflowers in season — for many the most stunning sight in Azad Kashmir. After time at the water we descend, driving back down the valley to overnight in Muzaffarabad.

7
Day 7 Muzaffarabad → Islamabad

A short heritage walk in Muzaffarabad catches the city's forts and river confluence before we begin the drive back toward Islamabad via the Kohala Bridge over the Jhelum. The mountains give way to foothills and plains, and we reach the capital by afternoon at the end of the loop.
